World Environment Day

Every year, June 5th is celebrated internationally as World Environmental Day. It is the biggest international day for the environment, starting back in 1974, and it is held annually by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). With the hashtag #OnlyOneEarth, this year World Environmental Day will be hosted by Sweden, as an opportunity to showcase some innovative work done on the environment over the past 50 years.

Our planet is important to all of us. Since we only have only one planet, it is essential that each one of us does its work and contributes to preserving it. It all starts with us, that is why it is essential to be environmentally aware and self-conscious about the current condition and what we can personally do to prevent further destruction and deterioration of nature, the environment, and the planet.

8 things you can do at home on World Environmental Day:

A better tomorrow starts today and this day calls for action. Here are some of our suggestions on what to do at home on the Environmental Day:

How can you contribute all year round?

If you are willing to be the change that you want to see in the others too, then you need to be the role model and inspire such change. There are lots of different ways that you can contribute to preserving the environment throughout the entire year, ways in which we at Rooh Collective practice ourselves:

Consider where you shop

Support local businesses to reduce your carbon footprint when ordering from afar, look for environmentally-aware brands and beware of greenwashing.*

Be sustainable

Sustainability comes in different forms, so, be sure to choose sustainable fabrics that come from organic and natural ingredients and do not harm and pollute the environment.

Give back

Giving back is another great way of contributing to preserving the environment. Give back to the local communities and support the local businesses that are the into the sustainable and ethical processes.

Engage and educate

Become a part of the narrative, post and use the hashtag #onlyoneearth to help raise awareness and provide a source of information for others.

Re-use, recycle & reduce waste

What we throw away is an enormous part of the environmental pollution. Reducing the waste you produce starts with using biodegradable bags and containers, refillable bottles, not using single-use plastic, recycling correctly and re-using whatever you can.

Donate

For anything at home, in your wardrobe or in your kitchen cupboards that are not needed anymore, look for places to donate these items so they can go to a better home and not into a landfill.
